Kevin DeYoung | A Good Soldier | 2 Timothy 2:1-13
- Strength in Grace (v.1)
- DeYoung opens his sermon with this idea of two different Christian identities, one being wounded, weak, broken (Strugglers) and the other being strong, courageous, steadfast (Overcomers). In what ways have you seen these identities being taught in the Church?
- Which do you find yourself more surround by Triumphalism or Fatalism?
- Entrust to faithful men (v.2)
- What does entrusting others look like, and in what ways have you been entrusted?
- Soldier – Athlete – Farmer (v.3-7)
- What does pleasing the one who enlisted you look like in today’s world?
- In what ways do we as Christians compete with different race rules than those of non-believers?
- What are practical steps we can take in order to become better farmers/hardworking Christians in our church and work life?
- Remember Christ (v.8-10)
- How does remembering Christ help us be better Soldiers, Athletes, and Farmers?
- How does Christ’s work, word, and character give us strength in grace?
- Endurance (v.11-13)
- What did DeYoung mean by saying the sovereignty of God is a motivator for endurance?
- Paul reminds us that both encouragement and warning are needed for endurance; what role does the church play in this aspect?
Remember Christ so that we might be strength in grace to entrust to faithful men the words, works, and character of Christ that they may become better Soldiers, Athletes, and Farmers with endurance, so that we may be Faithful to God.
