God’s War On The Wicked – Psalm 2

The Politically Incorrect Guide To God’s War On The Wicked | Voddie Baucham

Psalm Chapter 2

Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying, “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, “As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.” I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you. Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.” Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

  1. We are God’s chosen people; therefore, those who wage war against God also wage war against those who represent Him. What does this war mean for God’s holy nation?

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 1 peter 2:9-10

  1. The nations seek to destroy the authority of God and replace it with their own authority. What are some examples of this today and in past history?

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matt 28:18-20

And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. John 3:19

  1. What does Voddie mean by saying that you will either obey God willingly or unwillingly? What are some examples of this?

The Lord Laughs who through the mouth of our father David, your servant, said by the Holy Spirit, “‘Why did the Gentiles rage, and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers were gathered together, against the Lord and against his Anointed’—   for truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place. And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness.  Act:4:25-29

  1. Why does God’s “King on Zion” terrify those who are against Him? Do we fear the one who is on Zion more than we fear the nations?

Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Phil 2:9-11

For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Cor 1:18

  1. Voddie has mentioned several times in previous sermons that Christians nowadays have adopted an 11th commandment “that thou shalt be nice.” What effect does this 11th commandment have on our Gospel presentation along with upholding the word of God?

and he will rule them with a rod of iron, as when earthen pots are broken in pieces, even as I myself have received authority from my Father. Rev 2:27

From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. Rev 19:15

  1. Do we teach repentance to the nations, and do you find yourself warning others of the judgment that is coming? Their only hope is to repent against the one whom they wage war on and seek refuge in Him.

The nations raged, but your wrath came, and the time for the dead to be judged, and for rewarding your servants, the prophets and saints, and those who fear your name, both small and great, and for destroying the destroyers of the earth.” Rev 11:18

Might we remember that we are engaged in a spiritual warfare, one that leads others to a hatred of those who would stand with God because they wage war against God. Oh nation of God, look toward Zion and fix your gaze on our King!
